Interact history
In the late 1950s, Rotary members were contemplating ways to increase youth participation and interest in community service, as well as broaden their worldview. The solution they deemed most suitable for this purpose was to create a Rotary program specifically designed for young people. After several years of planning, in 1962, the Rotary board approved the name "Interact," suggested by a committee to express "cooperation between clubs and partners on all levels of their activity: local, national, and international."
During this time, an incredible synergy between Rotarians and students led to the creation of the world's first Interact club. This was the Interact Club of Melbourne High School, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Melbourne (Florida, USA), established on November 5, 1962.
In response to suggestions from Rotary clubs and committees, in 1968, Interact opened its doors to women, and since then, it has been an entity where students of both genders, aged 12 to 18, achieve positive changes in their schools and communities.
